Static Site Generators

Jekyll – blog-aware static site generator

Jekyll is a simple, blog-aware, static site generator perfect for personal, project, or organization sites. It takes text written in your favorite markup language and uses layouts to create a static website. You can tweak the site’s look and feel, URLs, the data displayed on the page, and more.

Think of it like a file-based CMS, without all the complexity. Jekyll takes your content, renders Markdown and Liquid templates, and spits out a complete, static website ready to be served by Apache, Nginx or another web server.

Jekyll is the engine behind GitHub Pages, which you can use to host sites right from your GitHub repositories.

Key Features

  • Works out of the box. Simple to use, simple to understand.
  • Focuses on content first and foremost, making the process of publishing content on the Web easy.
  • Blog-aware – permalinks, categories, pages, posts, and custom layouts.
  • The core of Jekyll is simple and small, and extensibility is a first-class feature to provide added functionality from community contributors.
  • Backwards-compatibility
