Rancher is a platform for managing Kubernetes clusters from a central interface. It is designed for organisations that operate Kubernetes across on-premises infrastructure, hosted services, data centres and cloud environments.
Clusters can be provisioned through supported infrastructure providers or imported when Kubernetes is already running. Rancher then provides a common management layer across those clusters, helping administrators handle access, workloads and day-to-day operations without treating every cluster as an isolated environment.
The aim is not to replace Kubernetes itself, but to add a consistent administrative layer above multiple clusters, with shared identity, access and operational tooling.
