nvidia-htop is a command-line utility that extends the information available from NVIDIA’s nvidia-smi tool. Its main purpose is to make it easier to identify the processes using a GPU and determine which users are responsible for their resource consumption.
The application combines NVIDIA GPU information with operating system process statistics. This is particularly useful on shared workstations and computing servers, where several users may be running graphics or machine learning applications simultaneously.
Rather than providing a completely separate monitoring environment, nvidia-htop retains the familiar nvidia-smi presentation and adds more detailed process information. It can also show utilisation meters and colourised status information to make heavily loaded devices easier to identify.
The program is primarily a reporting utility rather than a full-screen interactive process manager. For continuously refreshed information, it can be used alongside the standard watch command.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Combines nvidia-smi hardware information with additional process statistics.
- Displays usernames associated with GPU processes.
- Reports CPU utilisation for processes using NVIDIA GPUs.
- Shows the commands responsible for GPU workloads.
- Allows longer command lines to be displayed with configurable truncation.
- Filters process listings by one or more usernames.
- Supports selecting particular NVIDIA GPU devices.
- Provides optional colour coding to indicate GPU loading.
- Displays graphical text meters for GPU and video memory utilisation.
- Accepts piped nvidia-smi output for compatibility with existing workflows.
- Can be combined with watch for periodically updated output.
