FLAM3 is the original fractal flame renderer and genetic language. It provides a set of command-line programs and a C library for generating, manipulating and rendering fractal flames.
A flame is represented by a genome containing transformations, variations, colours and rendering parameters. FLAM3 can create these genomes from scratch, mutate existing ones, cross two parents and interpolate between control points.
This makes the software useful both as a standalone command-line renderer and as a foundation for other fractal flame applications.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Provides flam3-render for producing still fractal flame images.
- Includes flam3-animate for rendering animation sequences.
- Offers flam3-genome for creating and manipulating flame parameter sets.
- Can generate random genomes as starting points for new artwork.
- Supports mutation of existing flames to produce related variations.
- Provides crossover operations that combine characteristics from two parent flames.
- Interpolates between control points to produce smooth transitions.
- Can generate rotation and sequence-based animation parameter sets.
- Supports motion blur when rendering animated flames.
- Includes a substantial collection of mathematical flame variations.
- Provides symmetry controls for constructing repeated geometric structures.
- Supports palettes and colour maps for controlling rendered colour.
- Includes flam3-convert for converting older flame data into its XML representation.
- Installs a reusable C library for applications that want to embed FLAM3 rendering.
- Provides command-line controls for rendering quality, dimensions and other parameters.
