FractGen is a suite of fractal-generation tools built around a common file format and rendering engine. It includes graphical applications for Qt and KDE environments together with a command-line program for scripted or unattended rendering.
The software is designed for creating fractal images at arbitrary output sizes, with the practical limit determined by available virtual memory. Projects can be saved as FractGen files and later reopened, processed from the desktop applications or rendered from scripts.
The command-line component makes FractGen useful beyond interactive exploration. Existing project files can be rendered in batch jobs with explicit image dimensions, iteration limits and output formats, making it straightforward to automate large image sets.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Provides a Qt graphical application for interactive fractal generation.
- Includes a KDE-oriented graphical application built on Qt.
- Offers CLIFractGen for command-line and batch processing.
- Generates Mandelbrot-style fractal images.
- Supports saved project files that can be loaded by the GUI or CLI tools.
- Allows output dimensions to be specified independently of the display window.
- Can generate very large images where sufficient memory is available.
- Supports PNG and WebP output through the command-line renderer.
- Allows maximum iteration counts to be selected for individual rendering jobs.
- Makes it easy to process collections of project files from shell scripts.
- Provides example fractal files covering a wide selection of parameter sets.
- Includes internationalisation support and translation files.
