pstate-frequency is a shell-based utility for controlling CPU frequency-scaling policy on Linux. It provides a single command-line interface for querying and changing settings exposed by supported CPU scaling drivers.
The program works with Intel P-state, AMD P-state in supported modes and acpi-cpufreq. It changes policy values presented to the kernel and processor rather than forcing a modern CPU to run at an exact clock speed, so the frequency actually selected by the hardware can vary from the requested limits.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Display the currently requested CPU settings and real-time CPU frequencies.
- Set minimum and maximum CPU scaling frequencies.
- Change the active CPU scaling governor.
- Enable or disable processor turbo boost where supported.
- Configure Energy Performance Preference values on compatible drivers.
- Apply reusable named power plans containing several related settings.
- Provide predefined approaches for power saving, balanced operation, performance and maximum performance.
- Automatically select different plans according to whether the main power source is online.
- Integrate with systemd units and udev rules so settings can be applied during startup, resume or power-source changes.
- Offer shell completion for common command-line environments.
- Validate supported CPU scaling drivers before attempting to apply settings.
- Allow normal users to query settings while reserving configuration changes that need privileged access for an administrator.
- Support a delayed apply mode that is useful when system services and hardware interfaces are not immediately ready during startup.
- Store power plans as editable configuration files so users can tailor several related CPU settings under a single plan name.
