BOSS Online Submission System is a course administration and assignment assessment application developed by the Department of Computer Science at the University of Warwick.
The software was designed to provide an organised method of submitting and marking student work. It allows students to upload assignments electronically, while academic staff can administer assessment deadlines, review submissions and provide feedback.
BOSS has a particular emphasis on programming and other computer science assignments. It includes a framework for running automated tests against submitted work, supplementing conventional marking with automated evaluation.
The system also separates responsibilities among staff involved in assessment. Markers, moderators and course managers can perform different tasks, helping institutions coordinate marking and maintain oversight of the assessment process.
BOSS is a historical project. No current maintained release has been established, and its published documentation describes a much older academic software environment. It should not be assumed suitable for deployment without a detailed compatibility and security review.
