Xiphos is a Bible study application that provides a graphical environment for reading scripture, consulting reference works and carrying out textual research. Formerly known as GnomeSword, it uses modules and libraries from the CrossWire SWORD Project.
The program combines different types of study material in a configurable workspace. Readers can move between translations, examine commentaries and dictionaries, and maintain personal annotations without leaving the application.
Xiphos is particularly useful for comparing passages and investigating their original wording. Its bookmarking and note-taking facilities also help users organise material collected during longer study sessions.
This is free and open source software.

- Install additional modules from CrossWire repositories and other configured sources.
- Use BibleSync to share passage navigation with compatible applications.
- Adjust fonts, spell checking and other reading preferences.
- Cross-platform support – runs on Linux and Windows.
