Lex – terminal-based Bible study and research tool

Lex is a terminal-based Bible study application designed for people who want more than straightforward scripture reading. It combines Bible translations, original-language references and theological resources in a command-line environment.

The program offers a study mode that brings together passage context, interlinear material, lexicon definitions and cross-references. This allows users to investigate the wording and interpretation of a passage without moving between several applications.

Lex keeps its principal study resources in local SQLite databases and JSON files. Reading and searching can therefore work offline after installation, although some specialised manuscript resources may need to be downloaded before they can be used without an internet connection.

This is free and open source software.
