The Ur-Quan Masters (UQM) project aims to port Star Control II to modern operating systems including Linux.
Star Control II: The Ur-Quan Masters is a critically-acclaimed science fiction computer game, the second game in the Star Control trilogy. It is a space adventure game that features role-playing elements alongside a robust 2D combat system. It was a milestone for non-linear gaming and an undeniable influence on modern space travel games such as Homeworld.
In this game you return to Earth with a vessel built from technology discovered from an ancient race called the Precursors only to find it enslaved. Gather allies from a wide variety of races, engage in space combat with various foes, and save the galaxy from the Ur-Quan! The player assumes the role of the captain of a single starship wandering a detailed environment of solar systems, gradually gathering information and resources in order to defeat a mysterious and implacable enemy; the plot contains numerous mysteries and other half-explained elements that contribute to the beauty.
If there is any chance to free Earth, you’ll need to forge alliances and build up your ship. Use diplomacy and fire power to save humanity, in this humour-packed space adventure.
A powerful ship from an ancient civilization has been found. Returning home to use this ship in the war against the Ur-Quan you find it is too late — Earth is under a slave shield.
