AcidRip – automated front end for MPlayer/Mencoder

Last Updated on July 8, 2023

AcidRip is a Gtk::Perl application for ripping and encoding DVD’s.

This application neatly wraps MPlayer and Mencoder. As well as creating a simple Graphical Interface for those scared of getting down and dirty with Mencoder’s command line interface, it also automates the process in a number of ways.

Acidrip is fundamentally a wrapper application, and therefore its feature set is constrained by Mencoder.

Features include:

  • Parses DVD into contents tree.
  • Finds the longest title.
  • Calculates video bitrate for given filesize.
  • Perform a large number of video transformations such as:
    • Scaling.
    • Find black bands and crop them.
    • Color conversion.
    • Bit rate conversion.
