zk is a command-line tool helping you to maintain a plain text Zettelkasten or personal wiki.
A Zettelkasten is a personal tool for thinking and writing that creates an interconnected web of thought.
This is free and open source software.
Features include
- Create notes. zk automatically generates a filename and initial content according to rules set in your configuration file. These settings can be customized per group of notes in your notebook, as illustrated in Maintaining a daily journal.
- Searching and filtering notes including a full-text search database enabling near-instant results.
- Integration with editors: Neovim and Visual Studio Code.
- Integration with fzf, which power’s zk’s interactive filtering mode.
- Command aliases – custom zk commands which can run another zk command or an external program.
- Automation support:
- Write command aliases or named filters for repeated complex commands.
- Call zk from other programs.
- Send notes for processing by other programs.
- Create a note with initial content from a standard input pipe.
- Notebook housekeeping.
- Relies on simple plain text formats such as Markdown.
