WsgiDAV is a WebDAV server written in Python that allows files and other resources to be accessed through the Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning protocol. It uses the Web Server Gateway Interface (WSGI), making it suitable for standalone file sharing and integration into Python-based services.
The software is built around a configurable middleware stack. Administrators can publish ordinary directories, while developers can create providers that represent databases, virtual file systems or other application data as WebDAV resources.
WsgiDAV works with standard WebDAV clients, including desktop file managers and document editors. It also provides a browser interface for navigating published resources, making it useful when a dedicated WebDAV client is unavailable.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Map several directories or storage providers to different URL paths, with individual read-only or read-write settings.
- Authenticate users through HTTP Basic or Digest schemes, with support for PAM, Windows NT accounts, htpasswd and htdigest backends.
- Allow selected shares to be accessed anonymously while restricting others to authorised users.
- Protect connections with SSL/TLS when the server is configured with appropriate certificates.
- Manage WebDAV locks using configurable storage backends to help prevent conflicting edits.
- Store additional WebDAV resource properties through configurable property managers.
- Implement custom DAV providers to expose application data rather than physical files.
- Configure the middleware stack, including request handling, directory browsing and cross-origin resource sharing.
- Use YAML or JSON configuration files to define share mappings, authentication and server behaviour.
- Support online editing from compatible Microsoft Office applications.
- Use a multithreaded HTTP server to handle concurrent client requests.
