Radicale is a compact server for synchronising calendars, task lists, journals and contacts using CalDAV and CardDAV. It is designed for installations where a dedicated DAV service is preferable to deploying a much larger groupware platform.
The server can operate with a small configuration and stores its collections directly on the filesystem. Calendar and contact editing is left to DAV clients rather than being duplicated in a full browser-based organiser.

- Collection sharing can map calendars and address books to other users with separately controlled read and write permissions.

- Authentication options include htpasswd credentials and integration with authentication performed by a trusted web server or reverse proxy.

- The default storage backend keeps collections in a straightforward filesystem hierarchy rather than requiring an external SQL database.
- Authentication, authorisation, storage and web components can be replaced or extended through Python plugins.
- TLS can be handled by Radicale itself, while deployments can alternatively place the service behind a suitable reverse proxy.
- Connection, resource-size and failed-authentication limits provide controls for exposed installations and help contain abusive requests.
