MyDumper is a pair of command-line utilities for fast logical backup and restoration of MySQL-compatible databases. MyDumper performs the export side of the operation, while MyLoader reconstructs the databases from the generated dump.
The project is designed around parallelism. Large databases and tables can be split into independent chunks and processed by multiple worker threads, avoiding the single-threaded bottleneck associated with simpler logical dump tools. This makes it particularly useful when backup windows are short or restoration speed is an important part of disaster-recovery planning.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Runs multiple dump threads concurrently to increase export throughput.
- MyLoader restores dump contents in parallel using independently configurable worker threads.
- Splits large tables into chunks so several workers can process the same table concurrently.
- Supports consistent backup strategies intended to minimise data inconsistency during active workloads.
- Can dump individual databases, selected tables or larger groups of database objects.
- Supports configurable compression for generated dump data.
- Offers streaming workflows for moving dump output through external processing pipelines.
- Can invoke external commands against generated files for additional processing.
- Includes filters for selecting or excluding schemas and tables.
- Provides specialised planning for dividing very large tables with string primary keys.
- Can tune chunk targets and planning limits for unusually large or skewed datasets.
- Backs up routines, events and triggers alongside table data where requested.
- Uses configuration files to share connection and behaviour settings across repeated operations.
- Provides controls for restore-time index optimisation and server session variables.
