Jaeger – distributed tracing system

Jaeger is a distributed tracing platform which lets you monitor and troubleshoot distributed workflows.

It also helps to identify performance bottlenecks, track down root causes, and analyze service dependencies.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • Modern Web UI.
  • High Scalability – the backend is designed to have no single points of failure and to scale with the business needs.
  • Cloud Native – the backend is distributed as a container image or a raw binary, available for multiple platforms.
  • OpenTelemetry – supports the OpenTracing standard.
  • Multiple storage backends:
    • Natively supports popular open source NoSQL databases as trace storage backends: Cassandra 4.0+, Elasticsearch 7.x/8.x, and OpenSearch 1.0+.
    • Extensible via the Remote Storage API with other well known databases that have been certified to be Jaeger compliant.
    • Embedded database support using Badger and simple in-memory storage for testing setups.
  • Sampling.
  • Topology graphs – supports two types of service graphs: System Architecture and Deep Dependency Graph.
  • Cross-platform support – runs under Linux, macOS, and Windows.
