CastCharm – self-hosted podcast manager with clean web UI

CastCharm is a self-hosted podcast manager centred on a clean web interface.

It keeps subscriptions, episode data and downloaded media under the user’s control, with application state stored in SQLite and audio files organised separately on disk. The project is designed to run as a single container, with an initial setup wizard handling the basic configuration. It can serve as the main interface for managing a podcast collection or sit behind other podcast clients by producing cleaned RSS feeds from the managed library.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • Subscribe to podcasts by RSS URL or create offline and manual feeds.
  • Automatically download new episodes with per-feed overrides.
  • Keep-latest cleanup controls can limit how many downloaded episodes are retained.
  • Tracks playback position, played status and backlog information.
  • Write configurable ID3 metadata to downloaded MP3 files.
  • Generates cleaned RSS feeds for consumption by other podcast applications.
  • Full-text search across episodes.
  • Library-wide and per-feed statistics with charts.
  • A selection of built-in colour themes changes the appearance of the web interface.
  • Optional password protection for the instance.
  • REST API with interactive Swagger documentation.
  • External clients can authenticate with individually generated API keys.
  • API keys can be named and revoked independently, and external API access can be disabled globally.
  • Supports deployment behind nginx, Caddy, Traefik and other reverse proxies.
  • Separate data and download paths make it straightforward to place application state and media on different storage.
  • Downloaded audio is organised by podcast and year.
  • Feed, episode, settings and playback data can be backed up by copying the SQLite database.
