FabexCNC is a CAM extension for Blender that generates CNC machining toolpaths and exports G-code. The project was formerly known as BlenderCAM but was renamed Fabex following changes to the Blender Foundation’s trademark guidance.
It uses Blender as the modelling and visualisation environment, making it particularly attractive for machining complex artistic or free-form geometry as well as more conventional routed parts. Users can create geometry inside Blender or import existing models and images before defining machining operations.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Provides both 2D and 3D milling strategies.
- Machining operations include profile, pocket, drilling, parallel, cross, block, spiral and medial-axis strategies.
- Supports ballnose, ballcone, bullnose, flat end mills, V-carving tools and user-defined cutter geometry.
- Works with Blender models, imported 3D geometry and 2D image data.
- Stock dimensions and location can be defined manually or derived from the model.
- Roughing operations can retain additional material using layer and skin controls.
- Toolpath simulation creates a mesh representation of the expected machined result.
- Automatic bridges or tabs can retain cut-out parts within the surrounding stock.
- Multiple machining operations can be combined into chains for export and simulation.
- Stay-low movement can reduce unnecessary retracts and machining time.
- Curve packing helps arrange multiple parts efficiently on sheet material.
- Includes post-processors for Grbl, LinuxCNC, ISO, Fadal, Heidenhain, ShopBot and other machine controls.
- Runs as a Blender extension on Linux.
