VisiData – interactive multitool for tabular data

VisiData is a tool that lets you quickly open, explore, summarize, and analyze datasets in your computer’s terminal. It combines the clarity of a spreadsheet, the efficiency of the terminal, and the power of Python, into a lightweight utility which can handle millions of rows with ease.

VisiData works with CSV files, Excel spreadsheets, SQL databases, and many other data sources.

• Explore, clean, edit, and restructure data. Rows can be selected, filtered, and grouped.
• Fast, opening files of several tens of megabytes almost instantly.
• Agile, the software makes it easy to search, filter, sort, join and restructure tabular data.
• Obtain an overview of the datasets you want to work on in just a few steps.
• Instant histogram with one keystroke.
• Scatterplots in the terminal –  visualise the relationship between numeric dependent variables vs a numeric independent variable. Optionally, a second independent variable, which is categorical, adds an additional colored scatter plot for each category.
• Opens many of the typical structured text formats (csv, tsv, xlsx, xls, json, xml, sqlite, shp, html, hdf5, xpt, sas7bdat, sav, dta).
• Use only from the keyboard; forget about the mouse.
• Columns can be rearranged, transformed, and derived via regex or Python expressions.
• Workflows can be saved, documented, and replayed.
