Tuwunel is a Matrix homeserver written in Rust, designed as a high-performance alternative to Synapse for self-hosted and institutional deployments. It is the official successor to conduwuit and aims to cover almost all everyday Matrix use cases while keeping resource use and administration comparatively modest.
The server works with standard Matrix clients, bridges and bots. Its architecture focuses on efficient federation and event processing. Existing Conduit and conduwuit installations can migrate their RocksDB databases in place, preserving rooms, account data and media automatically.
This is free and open source software.
