systemd-repart is a declarative tool for creating, growing and populating disk partitions. It forms part of the systemd project.
Unlike conventional interactive partition editors, systemd-repart works from partition definition files. This makes it particularly useful when building operating-system images or automatically configuring storage during deployment.
It can operate on physical block devices as well as disk-image files and includes facilities for creating complete disk images.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Creates and grows partitions according to declarative repart.d configuration files.
- Can initialise new GPT partition tables and add missing partitions to existing layouts.
- Operates on physical block devices and disk-image files.
- Supports automatic expansion of root and other partitions to consume available disk space.
- Can format newly created partitions and populate them with files or filesystem images.
- Supports encrypted partitions, including LUKS2 and integration with TPM2-backed keys.
- Can generate Verity-protected partitions and signed disk-image layouts.
- Builds Discoverable Disk Images for system extensions, configuration extensions and portable services.
- Dry-run operation shows proposed partitioning changes before writing them.
- Supports reproducible layouts, configurable alignment and offline image construction.
