Stringer – distraction-free RSS reader

Stringer is an RSS reader designed around simplicity and focused reading. It provides a personal interface for following websites without social recommendations, built-in sharing services or algorithmic content suggestions.

The application uses Ruby on Rails with PostgreSQL for storing subscriptions and reading activity. Its streamlined interface is intended for users who want to work through their feeds without the distractions of a more elaborate news service.

Keyboard shortcuts are an important part of the reading experience. Users can move through articles and manage their reading activity without relying on the mouse. Stringer also provides an API compatible with Fever, allowing supported external clients to access the same subscriptions.

The project supports several languages and includes facilities for removing older read articles from the database. It remains an intentionally restrained alternative to more feature-heavy RSS readers.

This is free and open source software.
