Static Site Generators

site-generator – command-line application for static site generation

site-generator is a command-line application for static site generation.

site-generator was motivated by the apparent lack of static site generators that are able to deal with arbitrary content. While being able to input a title, author, date, and content for each of your pages is nice if you have a blog, the ability to generate any pages that are complex becomes limited to how much you can cram into your content section. For pages with any complexity, this could mean adding a whole bunch of HTML into a file that is meant for content. If other pages were to share this HTML, it would have to be duplicated. This is clearly not solving the problem that a site generator should.

This is free and open source software.

Features include:

  • Accepts arbitrary data in content pages.
  • Support for content written in multiple languages.
  • Templates can expand Common Lisp expressions in arbitrary CL environments making the functionality of site-generator infinitely expandable (to people who can program in Common Lisp, at least).
  • Conversion of markup with Pandoc.
  • Support for aggregate pages like archives and RSS feeds.
  • Site previewing with Hunchentoot.
  • Publishing with Rsync.
  • HTML/XML can be generated with the lightweight syntax of CL-WHO.
  • Execution of arbitrary commands before publishing (e.g. to compile Javascript or CSS).
