Pan is a graphical Usenet newsreader for reading and posting messages, following discussions and downloading binary content. It uses GTK and offers a traditional desktop interface for navigating newsgroups and managing articles.
The application supports both text discussions and binary newsgroups. Users can maintain subscriptions, follow conversation threads, search through articles and work with several news servers. It can also queue material for offline reading, making it useful when a permanent connection is inconvenient.
Pan includes extensive filtering and scoring facilities for handling busy newsgroups. Its rules system can hide unwanted articles, highlight relevant discussions or perform automatic actions on matching messages.
Pan has a long history as a Linux newsreader and satisfies the Good Netkeeping Seal of Approval newsreader evaluation criteria.
This is free and open source software.
