lazyenv – work with environment variable files across projects

lazyenv is a terminal-based application for working with environment variable files across projects.

It gives you a keyboard-driven interface for inspecting and maintaining .env files, with tools for spotting missing variables, comparing environments, and preserving the original structure of files when saving changes.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • Uses a two-panel interface to show discovered environment files alongside their variables for fast navigation and editing.
  • Can create, duplicate, rename, delete, and template `.env` files without leaving the terminal interface.
  • Includes side-by-side diff tools with bidirectional copy to help synchronize variables between files.
  • Shows a completeness matrix and change tracking to highlight missing, modified, duplicate, empty, and placeholder values.
  • Offers configurable protections such as secret masking, automatic backups, and checks for `.gitignore` coverage.
  • Preserves comments, blank lines, and quoting when saving files back to disk.
  • Provides search, sorting, clipboard support, mouse support, and a selection of built-in color themes.
