Cherrypick – modern screen color picker

Cherrypick is a modern desktop colour picker designed primarily for elementary OS.

It provides a straightforward way to sample a colour from anywhere on the screen and then work with the resulting value in a compact graphical interface. The application is built with GTK4 and uses Wayland-compatible portal technology, making it suited to current Linux desktop environments.

The project revives ideas and some code from the earlier, now unmaintained ColorPicker application, but has been modernised for GTK4, Wayland and elementary OS 8. Its scope stays focused on fast colour sampling and conversion rather than broader palette design or image editing.

This is free and open source software.

• Offers RGB, RGBA, HEX, CMYK, HSL, and HSLA output formats.
• Remembers the preferred colour format between sessions.
• Maintains a history of recently selected colours for quick reuse.
• Shows the stored colour code when hovering over an item in the history.
• Accepts colour values pasted from the clipboard and displays a preview.
• Indicates alpha transparency in pasted colours with a checkerboard background.
• Can immediately pick a colour and copy it to the clipboard without opening the normal workflow.
• Supports assigning the immediate-pick action to a keyboard shortcut.
• Provides a desktop launcher action for starting an immediate colour pick.
• Displays all supported formats together in the colour preview tooltip.
• Works on ARM systems as well as conventional x86 hardware.
• Includes translations for several languages.
