ILIAS – Integrated Learning, Information and Work Cooperation System

Integrated Learning, Information and Work Cooperation System (ILIAS) is a web-based learning management system released under an open source license.

This system supports learning content management (including SCORM 2004 compliance) and tools for collaboration, communication, evaluation and assessment.

It uses the MySQL database and the Apache web server.

Features include:

  • Personal Desktop which proves the personal working space for each user. It collects all resources that are needed to fulfill the daily learning tasks:
    • Listing of selected courses, groups and learning resources.
    • Personal profile and settings like password and system language.
    • Bookmarks.
    • Personal Notes.
    • Personal Messages.
    • External Web Feeds.
    • Internal News.
    • Calendar and time scheduler.
    • Personal Learning Progress.
    • Subscribed own forums and groups.
    • Push-feature for the contents (tutor can place all contents on the Personal Desktop of the users).
  • Course Management: allows the creation of courses and course materials:
    • Enrollment Settings.
    • Learning Resource Management.
    • Time triggered/Conditional Access.
    • Learning Progress Tracking for Members.
    • Member Gallery and (Google) Map.
    • Course News and Announcements.
  • Cooperation:
    • Group Management.
    • Awareness Feature.
    • vCard Export.

  • Communication:
    • Internal news system for all users including. the administration of the own news and profile.
    • Supports the delivery of internal mails to internal and/or external e-mail addresses.

    • Discussions forums with different modes of presentation.

  • Test & Assessment offering an integrated environment:
    • Question Types: Multiple choice, cloze (free text, select box), numerical, matching, ordering, hotspot, arrangement duties and more.
    • Question Pools for Re-Using.
    • Randomization of questions and choices.
    • IMS-QTI Import and Export.
  • Evaluation:
    • Survey Tool.
    • Reporting and Analysis.
  • Learning Content / Authoring:
    • Internal authoring environment to create XML-based learning modules, that can include images, flash, applets and other web media files.
    • XML-based learning document format, exports to HTML, XML and SCORM.
    • SCORM 1.2 (Certified for SCORM-Conformance Level LMS-RTE3).
    • SCORM 2004 (Certified as LMS for SCORM 2004 3rd Edition).
