Dynare – software platform for handling a wide range of economic models

Dynare is a software platform for handling a wide range of economic models, particularly dynamic stochastic general equilibrium and overlapping generations models.

Models are described in text files containing variables, equations, parameters, computational tasks and the required numerical or graphical output. Dynare runs with MATLAB or GNU Octave.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • Model dynamic stochastic general equilibrium and overlapping generations economies.
  • Supports rational expectations, perfect foresight and alternative expectation-formation mechanisms.
  • Compute deterministic perfect-foresight simulations.
  • Perform stochastic simulations using perturbation methods.
  • Calculate steady states and model diagnostics.
  • Generate impulse response functions.
  • Calculate theoretical and simulated moments.
  • Produce variance and conditional variance decompositions.
  • Estimate model parameters using maximum-likelihood or Bayesian techniques.
  • Estimate DSGE, VAR and DSGE-VAR models.
  • Kalman filtering and smoothing.
  • Unconditional and conditional forecasting.
  • Ramsey and discretionary optimal-policy analysis.
  • Supports deterministic, stochastic and heteroskedastic shocks.
  • Macro processor for generating and reusing model definitions.
  • Produces numerical results and graphical output.
  • Runs with MATLAB or GNU Octave.
  • Cross-platform support – runs on Linux, macOS and Windows.
