LibreOffice is an open source software office suite developed by The Document Foundation that is compatible with other major office suites and available on a variety of platforms. It is a feature-packed and mature desktop productivity package.
LibreOffice is a fork of OpenOffice.org. This was driven due to doubts about whether Oracle would continue development of OpenOffice.org. Unlike that software, LibreOffice’s development is driven by the open source community.
LibreOffice is compatible with many document formats such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher. LibreOffice also offers a modern open standard format, the OpenDocument Format (ODF).
