Vosk – offline speech recognition toolkit

Vosk is an offline speech recognition toolkit. It enables speech recognition for 20+ languages and dialects.

Vosk models are small (50 Mb) but provide continuous large vocabulary transcription, zero-latency response with streaming API, reconfigurable vocabulary and speaker identification.

Speech recognition bindings implemented for various programming languages including Python, Java, Node.JS, C#, C++, Rust, Go and others.

Vosk supplies speech recognition for chatbots, smart home appliances, virtual assistants. It can also create subtitles for movies, transcription for lectures and interviews.

Vosk scales from small devices like Raspberry Pi or Android smartphone to big clusters.

This is free and open source software.

Features include:

  • Supports 20+ languages and dialects – English, Indian English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Russian, Turkish, Vietnamese, Italian, Dutch, Catalan, Arabic, Greek, Farsi, Filipino, Ukrainian, Kazakh, Swedish, Japanese, Esperanto, Hindi, Czech, Polish, Uzbek, Korean, Breton, Gujarati, Tajik.
  • Works offline, even on lightweight devices – Raspberry Pi, Android, iOS
  • Installs with simple pip3 install vosk. Note that LinuxLinks doesn’t recommend installing software using pip3 on many distributions. Use an alternative such as pipx.
  • Portable per-language models are only 50Mb each, but there are much bigger server models available.
  • Provides streaming API for the best user experience (unlike popular speech-recognition python packages).
  • Bindings for different programming languages, too – Java / C# / JavaScript etc.
  • Allows quick reconfiguration of vocabulary for best accuracy.
  • Supports online modification of the vocabulary.
  • Reuses best practices for accurate speech recognition from many other toolkits,
  • Supports speaker identification beside simple speech recognition.
