Zohara OS – Arch-based Linux distribution for Windows users

Zohara OS is an Arch-based Linux distribution designed to provide a familiar environment for people moving from Windows. It uses the KDE Plasma 6 desktop on Wayland with a Windows-style taskbar, Start menu and visual appearance.

The distribution includes its own Settings application which presents system configuration in a layout inspired by Windows 11. It covers areas including displays, sound, Bluetooth, networking, storage, user accounts, default applications, gaming and printers.

Zohara OS also includes its own software store, offline voice typing using whisper.cpp, and Btrfs snapshots around package changes. The distribution uses the Linux Zen kernel and includes NVIDIA’s open kernel drivers for supported hardware.

What's a Linux distribution ("distro")?

A distro provides the user with a desktop environment, preloaded applications, and ways to update and maintain the system.

Each distro makes different choices, deciding which open source projects to install and provides custom written programs. They can have different philosophies.

Some distros are intended for desktop computers, some for servers without a graphical interface, and others for special uses. Because Linux is an open source operating system, combinations of software vary between Linux distros.
