lastwake is a command-line utility that examines the systemd journal to reconstruct a computer’s boot, sleep and wake history. It provides a convenient way to see when a machine was active, when it entered a low-power state and when it resumed operation.
The software distinguishes between suspend to RAM and hibernation to disk, reporting the relevant timestamps and calculating how long the system remained awake between sleep events.
By default, lastwake analyses the current boot session. It can also examine earlier sessions when their journal records remain available, making it useful for investigating previous suspend and resume behaviour.
This can help users understand a machine’s power-management history, particularly when diagnosing unexpected wake events or checking how frequently a laptop or workstation has entered suspend or hibernation.
