KPilot – Palm Desktop software

Last Updated on July 11, 2021

KPilot is a replacement for the Palm Desktop software from PalmSource Inc. It lets a PalmOS handheld exchange information with a Linux machine running KDE.

KPilot can back-up and restore your Palm Pilot and synchronize the built-in applications with their KDE counterparts. This software isa component of the KDE PIM module.

The package consists of two parts: the KPilot daemon, which sits in the system tray and handles the actual communication with the handheld, and the desktop KPilot program, which lets you configure the daemon and view the databases on your handheld.

KPilot has plugins that can exchange information between a Palm and other applications like KOrganizer or POP3/SMTP mail servers.

Features include:

  • Built-in viewers to view data (e.g. memos, addresses) stored on the handheld.
  • Hexadecimal database viewer for advanced use.
  • Can install new programs and databases on handhelds.
  • Sync heldheld with a PC.
  • The daemon and KPilot communicate using DCOP for several purposes: logging messages, changing the HotSync type, and exchanging configuration information.
