Warpgate – transparent bastion for secure infrastructure access

Warpgate is a self-hosted bastion host designed to provide secure, controlled access to servers, databases and other internal services. It acts as an intermediary between users and protected infrastructure, forwarding authorised connections without requiring additional client software or specialised SSH wrappers.

Unlike a traditional jump host, Warpgate provides protocol-aware access to individual services. Administrators can assign specific destinations to users, limiting their access to the resources they actually need rather than exposing an entire internal network.

Warpgate is useful for organisations managing production servers, remote employees, contractors and privileged administrative access. It combines connection management with a web administration interface, bringing authentication, access policies and session auditing together in one system.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • Supports SSH, HTTPS, Kubernetes, MySQL, PostgreSQL, RDP and VNC connections through a single gateway.
  • Records sessions for subsequent playback, with the ability to monitor active sessions through the administration interface.
  • Built-in browser-based SSH terminal and RDP/VNC viewers provide remote access without dedicated desktop clients.
  • Supports two-factor authentication using TOTP and single sign-on through OpenID Connect.
  • Provides detailed command-level auditing to help administrators investigate privileged activity.
  • Built-in brute-force protection includes IP blocking and user account lockouts.
  • Temporary access tickets allow administrators to grant time-limited access to protected resources.
  • Supports interactive initial configuration and stores administration and session information in an SQLite database.
  • Distributed as a single Rust executable without additional runtime dependencies.
