Haruna – video player using libmpv

Audio Player

Haruna is a media player which means it’s not confined to video playback. As an audio player performance is satisfactory.

Again the smart playlist functionality is very useful. Start playing a track and you’ve got a playlist containing all music files in the directory automatically generated for you.

Haruna - Music Player

One of the things we love about mpv is its support for gapless playback. For example, we can play an album with gapless playback with the command:

$ mpv --gapless-audio=yes --prefetch-playlist *

Gapless playback is the uninterrupted playback of consecutive audio tracks, such that relative time distances in the original audio source are preserved over track boundaries on playback. It’s essential if you listen to classical, electronic music, concept albums, and progressive rock.

Sadly Haruna doesn’t currently support gapless playback.

When it comes to audio playback, Haruna falls far short of Tauon Music Box. Then again, Tauon is an absolute gem of a music player. Designed to be streamlined but powerful while putting the user in control of their music collection, it’s jam packed with great features.
