GnGeo is a software emulator for the Neo-Geo game platform.
It is notable for the fact that it uses specialized cores to emulate the main processors, giving it a significant performance boost over more general emulators such as MAME. Specifically, it uses the 68k core, Starscream 680×0 emulation library, Cyclone 680×0 core, Raze Z80 emulator, Z80 Mame core, DrZ80 core, and YM2610 Mame core.
There are three main frontends available for GnGeo: GGF (Java based), XGngeo (GTK2_, and gngeogui (written in Perl).
Features include:
- Relatively fast emulation (PII 300MHz is sufficient in most cases).
- Emulate arcade and home system.
- Raster effect support (used in Super side kick 2,3,4 and some other games).
- Nebula/Kawaks transparency pack support.
- Interpolation between frame (smoother animation).
- Soft, OpenGL and YUV blitters.
- Many different effects (scanline, scale2x etc).
- Save state.
