diskard – TUI disk analyser

diskard is a developer-focused command line utility that scans a system for reclaimable disk space created by development tools and environments. Over time, caches, build outputs, package manager data, container images, and machine learning model downloads can consume large amounts of storage.

Diskard identifies these artifacts and allows users to review and clean them safely from the terminal.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • Command line utility designed to locate reclaimable disk space created by developer tools.
  • Scans systems for build caches, package manager data, container artifacts, and other development leftovers.
  • Detects artifacts produced by ecosystems such as Node.js, Rust, Docker, and Xcode.
  • Identifies large directories including build outputs, dependency caches, and downloaded model data.
  • Flexible scanning options with filters for category, size thresholds, and item age.
  • Risk classification to help distinguish safe items from potentially sensitive files.
  • Interactive cleanup commands that move removed files to the Trash by default.
  • Optional permanent deletion mode for fully removing selected artifacts.
  • Dry run mode for previewing cleanup actions before performing them.
  • Machine readable JSON output for scripting and automation.
  • Fast Rust implementation designed for efficient scanning and cleanup operations.
