ZFontManager – cross-platform font manager

ZFontManager is a cross-platform font manager for previewing, organising, installing and controlling fonts. It supports Linux, Windows and macOS and keeps font management entirely local, with no account, cloud service or telemetry required.

On first launch, the application scans standard system and user font directories and builds a library automatically. Additional directories can be watched for new fonts. Families are rendered using their own typefaces, while custom preview text and adjustable sizing make it easy to examine a large collection. Grid, list and waterfall views provide different ways to browse fonts.

A particularly useful feature is font activation and deactivation. Fonts can be temporarily removed from application font menus without uninstalling their files, either individually or in batches. A temporary activation option keeps a font available only until ZFontManager closes. New fonts can be installed by dragging files, directories or ZIP archives into the application, while removed fonts enter a restorable trash area rather than being immediately deleted.

For organisation, ZFontManager provides tags, collections, favourites and notes. Search and filtering can narrow the library by name, classification, writing system and variable-font status. Two to four families can be compared side by side.

The detail panel exposes individual styles, variable font axes, OpenType features, character maps and font metadata. ZFontManager can also export PNG specimen sheets, font files and library metadata. Library organisation data can be exported and restored separately.

This is free and open source software.
