Material Maker is a graphical application for designing procedural materials and painting texture sets onto 3D models.
Built on Godot, it represents generators, filters, transforms and outputs as interconnected nodes, so a material remains editable rather than being flattened into a fixed bitmap. Its workflow covers 2D and 3D textures, physically based rendering maps and graph-driven brushes in one interface. Results can be examined in 2D or on a configurable 3D preview before export. Graphs can be divided into reusable subgraphs and assets can be shared through the project’s online library, making the program useful for individual models and repeatable game-art pipelines.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Creates procedural graphs from noise, pattern, SDF, transform, filter, mathematics and workflow nodes.
- Generates albedo, metallic, roughness, emission, depth and normal information for PBR materials.
- Previews output in 2D and on 3D meshes with configurable lighting and environments.
- Builds reusable subgraphs, exposes selected parameters and rerolls seeds for controlled variations.
- Authors 2D and 3D textures; 3D texture nodes can help avoid visible UV seams.
- Paints OBJ, FBX, GLB and glTF meshes that contain texture coordinates.
- Provides freehand, line, stamp, fill, colour-picker and eraser painting tools.
- Offers view-space and texture-space painting with adjustable size, hardness, opacity and spacing.
- Combines paint, procedural and mask layers in a reorderable layer hierarchy.
- Designs brushes as node graphs controlling albedo, metallic, roughness, emission and depth channels.
- Exports images and engine-specific material data for Blender, Godot, Unity, Unreal Engine 4 and Unreal Engine 5.
- Batch-exports multiple .ptex projects from the command line.
- Downloads and shares materials, brushes, custom nodes and environments through the community library.
