K4DirStat is a graphical disk usage analyser that displays the amount of storage consumed by directory trees. It provides both numerical statistics and a visual representation of filesystem contents.
The application is derived from KDirStat, a disk usage analyser originally developed for KDE. It retains the combination of a hierarchical directory tree and a treemap, allowing users to examine storage consumption from different perspectives.
Directory sizes are shown numerically, while the treemap uses rectangular areas to represent the relative size of files and directories. Large files occupy proportionally larger areas, making storage-intensive content easier to identify.
K4DirStat also provides cleanup functionality. Instead of merely showing where space is being consumed, it allows users to configure actions that operate on selected files and directories.
The application can be useful for exploring complex directory structures, investigating unexpectedly large folders and managing storage where a conventional file manager provides insufficient detail.
