getparty is a command-line HTTP download manager that can divide a file into multiple parts and download them concurrently. This allows the application to use several connections during a transfer, potentially improving download speed when supported by the remote server.
The utility provides controls for the number of download parts, connection timeouts, retry attempts and bandwidth consumption. It can save information about interrupted transfers in session files, allowing downloads to continue without restarting from the beginning.
getparty also includes mirror selection functionality. Given a list of alternative download servers, it can evaluate available mirrors and choose a suitable source for the requested file.
The software is designed for straightforward file downloads from HTTP servers, with additional options for authentication, proxies and output file handling. It is particularly useful for scripted download tasks where predictable transfer behaviour and configurable retry settings are important.
