GeneWeb – genealogy software with a web interface

GeneWeb is a genealogy application with a web interface for storing, exploring and publishing family history information. It can run locally on a computer or operate as a server that makes genealogical records accessible through a browser.

The software was created by Daniel de Rauglaudre and has a long history of handling large genealogical databases. It is particularly notable for its relationship analysis facilities, which can calculate family connections across complex ancestral lines.

GeneWeb uses a server-based architecture to generate pages dynamically in response to requests. The same underlying genealogical information can therefore be examined by individual users on their own computers or shared with a larger group of researchers.

Its database facilities accommodate extensive family trees with large numbers of people and complicated relationships. GeneWeb has been used to power major collaborative genealogical databases, including Roglo.

The application includes controls for editing and protecting genealogical information, together with facilities for exchanging data through standard genealogy formats. Its combination of relationship analysis, data management and browser access makes it suitable for both private research and collaborative projects.
