CrochetPARADE is a platform for creating, visualizing and analysing two-dimensional and three-dimensional crochet patterns.
It uses a purpose-built pattern language designed to express crochet instructions precisely and avoid ambiguities associated with natural-language patterns. Designs are parsed, checked and converted into interactive virtual models that can be inspected before a physical project is started.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Define crochet projects using a purpose-built pattern description language.
- Create custom stitches and reusable stitch patterns.
- Parse pattern instructions and check them for structural correctness.
- Generate virtual models directly from crochet pattern descriptions.
- Visualize crochet projects in both two and three dimensions.
- Identify stitches that appear excessively loose or tight in the generated model.
- Inspect potential structural problems before starting the physical crochet project.
- Generate crochet charts automatically using standard crochet symbols.
- Export SVG diagrams showing the connections between individual stitches.
- Identify stitches in SVG output by type, row number and position within a row.
- Export three-dimensional project models for further work in applications such as Blender.
- Rotate, zoom and pan around the interactive 3D representation.
- Animate construction of a pattern to show how stitches connect sequentially.
- Highlight selected stitches for closer inspection.
- Hide selected stitches to expose otherwise obscured parts of a model.
- Change yarn thickness to examine its effect on the resulting shape.
- Change yarn colours within the virtual project.
- Hover over stitches in the 3D view to inspect stitch information.
- Share patterns as text so another user can reproduce the same virtual model.
- Pattern grammar follows programming-language concepts and can also support teaching programming principles.
- Perform calculations locally on the user’s device rather than sending project data to a central server.
- Can process large patterns containing tens of thousands of stitches.
- Uses three.js for interactive three-dimensional rendering.
- Uses SVG.js for scalable vector diagram generation.
