CodeChecker – static analysis and defect management platform

CodeChecker is a static analysis and defect management platform for software projects. It brings together tools for finding potential problems in source code and a central service for inspecting, organising and reviewing their reports. Its analysis workflow focuses on C and C++, while its reporting infrastructure can accommodate findings from other programming languages.

Developers can capture the commands used to compile a project, run the analyzers against the resulting compilation database and inspect the diagnostics without setting up a server. For team use, reports can be stored in a database and examined through a browser, providing a shared record of code-quality issues across multiple analysis runs.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • Executes Clang Static Analyzer and Clang-Tidy, including cross-translation-unit analysis.
  • Can run Cppcheck, GCC Static Analyzer and Infer from the same command-line workflow.
  • Records build commands in a JSON compilation database, including builds driven by Make.
  • Supports incremental analysis to avoid repeatedly checking unaffected source files and dependencies.
  • Automatically detects compiler settings when examining GCC cross-compiled projects.
  • Displays defect severity, source locations and the execution steps behind individual findings.
  • Filters results by checker, severity and source path, and highlights newly introduced or resolved issues when comparing runs.
  • Provides suppression mechanisms for known false positives and facilities for commenting on reports.
  • Stores findings in PostgreSQL or SQLite, with support for multiple projects and analysis histories.
  • Exports diagnostic reports in the terminal or as static HTML pages.
  • Imports reports from external tools, including ESLint, SpotBugs and Pylint, through report conversion utilities.
  • Integrates with GitLab and Gerrit to make analysis findings available during code review.
