PrismLinux – Arch-based Linux distribution with four desktop option

PrismLinux is an Arch-based Linux distribution that aims to provide a straightforward desktop experience with practical defaults. It is developed by a community of contributors and uses Arch Linux packages alongside its own repositories and system utilities.

The distribution provides a universal installation image that boots into a KDE Plasma live environment. During installation, users can choose between KDE Plasma, GNOME, Cinnamon, and niri, a scrollable tiling Wayland compositor. Each option comes with its own desktop configuration and selection of applications.

PrismLinux features a custom graphical installer with automatic hardware detection, driver installation, and support for Btrfs and ext4 filesystems. Users can select GRUB, systemd-boot, or rEFInd where supported. Flatpak is enabled by default, while the distribution provides utilities for system updates, package maintenance, and mirror selection.

What's a Linux distribution ("distro")?

A distro provides the user with a desktop environment, preloaded applications, and ways to update and maintain the system.

Each distro makes different choices, deciding which open source projects to install and provides custom written programs. They can have different philosophies.

Some distros are intended for desktop computers, some for servers without a graphical interface, and others for special uses. Because Linux is an open source operating system, combinations of software vary between Linux distros.
