KemmOS – openSUSE Linux distribution with GNOME

KemmOS is a Linux distribution based on openSUSE Tumbleweed, designed to combine strong security measures with a comfortable desktop experience. It uses GNOME 50 and provides full-disk encryption, SELinux enforcement, Secure Boot support and system rollback capabilities.

The distribution features a customised GNOME desktop with fifteen wallpapers, alternative icon themes and a graphical appearance configuration tool. LibreWolf is the default browser, while a selection of productivity applications and Flatpaks are preinstalled.

KemmOS includes its own system management centre, providing information about hardware, drivers, security settings and available updates. Its custom update utility handles software updates, firmware updates and system maintenance. Installation uses a customised Calamares installer with optional software groups for gaming, networking and virtualisation.

What's a Linux distribution ("distro")?

A distro provides the user with a desktop environment, preloaded applications, and ways to update and maintain the system.

Each distro makes different choices, deciding which open source projects to install and provides custom written programs. They can have different philosophies.

Some distros are intended for desktop computers, some for servers without a graphical interface, and others for special uses. Because Linux is an open source operating system, combinations of software vary between Linux distros.
