Immich is a simple to use backup tool for self-hosted photos and videos

Last Updated on January 21, 2024

Summary

We give Immich our firm recommendation. It’s jam-packed with useful functionality such as optional machine-learning features to enhance search results. Like PhotoPrism, Immich also recognizes faces in your photos and videos and groups them together. You can then assign names to the faces and search for them.

Immich rivals PhotoPrism in many respects although Immich is more of a backup tool for media.

There’s definitely important functionality missing from Immich though. For example, Immich doesn’t currently support two-way synchronization. Fortunately the command line tool can bulk upload items from a directory to Immich. It’s object detection is somewhat ropey though as its machine learning model is prebuilt.
