Bibus – bibliographic and reference management software

Bibus is a reference management software designed for OpenOffice.org and Microsoft Word. Its main objective is to create an open source bibliographic software package that allows easy formatting of the bibliographic index in OpenOffice.org Writer and Microsoft Word. It is based on Python and wxWidgets, making it platform-independent.

Features include:

• Hierarchical organization of the references with user defined keys.
• Drag & drop to easily organize references.
• Designed for multiuser environments:
  • You can share the database between an “unlimited” number of users.
  • Each user has its own classification.
  • You can define read-only and read-write users.
• Powerful and easy to use search engine.
• Live queries; that is searches that update as the database changes.
• On-line PubMed queries.
• On-line eTBLAST queries.
• Multi-user support.
• Insertion of references and formatting of bibliographies into two widely used Word Processors (OpenOffice.org and Microsoft Word).
• Compatible with two database engines: MySQL and SQLite.
• Foreign language support through Unicode and gettext. As of version 1.4, Bibus is available in English, Chinese, Czech, French, German, Hungarian, Portuguese, Slovenian, and Spanish.
