Balanced Annihilation (BA) is a popular strategy game based on the Spring engine where you can choose from lots units to recruit and buildings to construct. Spring has the ambitious aim of creating the best ever Real-time strategy, a strategic game that is distinctly not turn-based. It sets out to bring the gameplay experience of Total Annihilation (TA) into three dimensions.
BA is a mature mod and new versions feature only minor balance tweaks.
BA gameplay develops in stages of progressively heavier units with a growing economy. Many strategies are viable in BA, including focusing on map control, aggression, defense, air power, sea power, or mobility.
BA’s lineage traces back to fan mods of the original Total Annihilation. It feels similar, and play is more balanced for diverse multiplayer strategies.
As the name suggests, the game rebalanced Absolute Annihilation, which was a rebalanced version of the Total Annihilation game Uberhack. The unit stats have been modified from Uberhack’s base stats making it very dissimilar from Uberhack. It features all the previous units from retail version of Total Annihilation, plus several extras for each faction. The balance does not reflect Total Annihilation gameplay as much as an augmented version of Total Annihilation.
Features include:
- Stable gameplay.
- Every unit has a role, and no unit has every role.
- Anti-air missile units cannot fire at ground units.
- The most powerful power plant is the hazardous geothermal plant, which causes a massive amount of damage when it explodes. This damage is far more than a fusion power plant, despite the fact that its nothing but steam.
- Two factions: Arm and Core:
- Arm has an anti-flak aircraft and an atomic bomber.
- Core has the flying fortress, a powerful aircraft, able to take a lot of hits, and deal out plenty of damage. It taps the players power supply for its laser attack. It has armed metal extractors.
- Hundreds of different units.
- Cooperative play mode for players to work as an even closer team.
