WebContentControl – GUI for web filtering based on Dansguardian

WebContentControl is software which enables parents to prevent their children from browsing certain websites.

It provides a graphical user interface written in Gambas which installs and configures DansGuardian, FireHol and TinyProxy. It is user friendly software, and offers good functionality.

WebContentControl can be configured for children or young adults, depending on what is referred to as the ‘naughtyness’ limit.

Features include:

• Automatic configuration of DansGuardian / TinyProxy / FireHol at installation.
• Graphical User Interface to start/stop the filtering and configure the above software.
• Does not simply replace configuration files. The software tries to change what is necessary so user-modified config files are unaffected.
• Config files are backed up during installation and restored during uninstallation.
• SSL filtering (works by locking the Firefox proxy settings).
• Filters out specific ID addresses.
• Control URL whitelists / blacklists.
